RCDR’s in-house laboratory offers a wide range of tests including Hematology, Immunology, Clinical Chemistry and Endocrinology. These are required for correct diagnosis and classification of diabetes, monitoring of glycaemic and metabolic control and detection and monitoring of cardiovascular risk factors and other complications. The lab is also central in the research of the center. Most test results are available within 40 minutes after sampling which is important as samples can be taken prior to the physician meeting the same day.
The RCDR Laboratory is the first laboratory under MOH to introduce Vitamin D analysis and GAD Antibody. This facility is important as most patients with diabetes have Vitamin D deficiency and insufficiency which needs to be identified and treated. GAD antibodies are used to diagnose the type of diabetes. In the future, we plan to extend the laboratory to further support the center’s research activities.
Based on Lab External Quality Assurance Report from EQAS (Bio-Rad), RCDR Lab ranks 1st out of 47 laboratories in the UAE and 5th out of 725 laboratories internationally in terms of accuracy and precision of Hematology and Clinical Chemistry results for the period of December 2010 to May 2011.
