Complications of Obesity

Obesity constitutes a serious health risk and often leads to a number of chronic diseases and conditions such as Type 2 Diabetes, cardiovascular disease, high cholesterol,high blood pressure, some types of cancer, sleep apnoea and back and joint pain.

It has been estimated that the risk of developing Type 2 Diabetes is increased 93-fold in women and 42-fold in men who are severely obese rather than those with a healthy weight.

  • Pulmonary disease or abnormal function of the respiratory system
  • Obstructive sleep apnea
  • Hypoventilation syndrome
